## uClamp0501H µClamp[TM] 1-Line ESD protection ## **PROTECTION PRODUCTS** - MicroClamp ## Description The µClamp[TM] series of TVS arrays are designed to protect sensitive electronics from damage or latch-up due to ESD. It is designed to replace multilayer varistors (MLVs) in portable applications such as cell phones, notebook computers, and PDA’s. It features large cross-sectional area junctions for conducting high transient currents. It offers superior electrical characteristics such as lower clamping voltage and no device degradation when compared to MLVs. They offer desirable characteristics for board level protection including fast response time, low operating and clamping voltage, and no device degradation. The µclamp[TM] 0501H is in a ultra-small SOD-523 package ideal for use in portable electronics such as cell phones, PDA’s, notebook computers, and digital cameras. It will protect one unidirectional line operating at 5 volts. It gives the designer the flexibility to protect one line in applications where arrays are not practical. Additionally, it may be “sprinkled” around the board in applications where board space is at a premium. This device may be used to meet the ESD immunity requirements of IEC 61000-4-2, Level 4 (15kV air, 8kV contact discharge). ## Features - ! The device is unidirectional and may be used on lines where the signal polarity is above ground. The cathode band should be placed towards the line that is to be protected. ## Circuit Board Layout Recommendations for Suppression of ESD. **==> picture [43 x 42] intentionally omitted <==** Good circuit board layout is critical for the suppression of ESD induced transients. The following guidelines are recommended: - " Place the TVS near the input terminals or connectors to restrict transient coupling. - " Minimize the path length between the TVS and the protected line. - " Minimize all conductive loops including power and ground loops. - " The ESD transient return path to ground should be kept as short as possible. - " Never run critical signals near board edges. - " Use ground planes whenever possible. ## Matte Tin Lead Finish Matte tin has become the industry standard lead-free replacement for SnPb lead finishes. A matte tin finish is composed of 100% tin solder with large grains. Since the solder volume on the leads is small compared to the solder paste volume that is placed on the land pattern of the PCB, the reflow profile will be determined by the requirements of the solder paste. Therefore, these devices are compatible with both lead-free and SnPb assembly techniques. In addition, unlike other lead-free compositions, matte tin does not have any added alloys that can cause degradation of the solder joint. www.semtech.com 2003 Semtech Corp. 4 uClamp0501H ## PROTECTION PRODUCTS Outline Drawing **==> picture [540 x 311] intentionally omitted <==** ## Land Pattern **==> picture [540 x 287] intentionally omitted <==** www.semtech.com 2003 Semtech Corp. 5 uClamp0501H ## PROTECTION PRODUCTS ## Marking Code **==> picture [48 x 29] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
5H
**----- End of picture text -----**
||Ordering Information|Ordering Information|Ordering Information|Ordering Information|Ordering Information||||||| |---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---| |||tr
a
P|r
e
b
m
u
N||g
n
i
k
r
o
W
e
g
a
tl
o
V|e
civ
e
D
g
n
i
k
r
a
M|||e
p
y
t
Q
l
e
e
R|r|l
e
e
R
e
zi
S| ||u|p
m
alC|T.
H
1
0
5
0|T
C|V
5||H
5||0
0
0
,
3||h
c
nI
7| MicroClamp, uClamp and µClamp are trademarks of Semtech Corporation ## Tape and Reel Specification **==> picture [462 x 184] intentionally omitted <==** Tape Specifications **==> picture [308 x 86] intentionally omitted <==** Device Orientation in Tape ## Contact Information Semtech Corporation Protection Products Division 200 Flynn Rd., Camarillo, CA 93012 Phone: (805)498-2111 FAX (805)498-3804 www.semtech.com 2003 Semtech Corp. 6
