Furthermore, these sensors feature increased immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI), especially to frequency drives. Not only does 4[TH] Generation _TRIPLESHIELD_[TM] feature an increased EMI, but it also increases the immunity to humidity and dust. The implementation of stability indication eases the setup procedure as both Stable ON and Stable OFF positions are indicated by the green and yellow LEDs. The sensing distance is increased by 25 % allowing room for additional stable detection. The Dust Alarm function gives an early warning that the sensing surroundings have to be cleaned. The Temperature alarm function raises an alarm if the sensing surface goes beyond 60 degree Celcius. The sensor housing is featuring IP69K as well as approval by ECOLAB for cleaningand disinfection agents. **Orderin Ke g y CA18CAN12NAM1 Capacitive prox im ity switch Housing diameter (mm) Housing material Housing length Detection principle Rated operating dist. The sensor must not only be dust tight (IP6X), but also able to withstand high-pressure and steam cleaning. The sensor is exposed to high pressure water from a spray nozzle that is fed with 80°C water at 8’000– 10’000 KPa (80–100bar) and a flow rate of 14–6L/min. The nozzle is held 100 –150 mm from the sensor at angles of 0°, 30°, 60° and 90° for 30s each. The test device sits on a turntable that rotates with a speed of 5 times per minute. The sensor must not suffer any damaging effects from the high pressure water in appearance and function. 90° 60° 30° lL 0° **2** Specifications are subject to change without notice (04.07.2022) **CA18CAN/CAF.....** ## **Adjustment Guide** The environments in which capacitive sensors are installed can often be unstable as regards temperature, humidity, object distance and industrial (noise) interference. That is why Carlo Gavazzi offers as standard features in all TRIPLESHIELD[TM] capacitive sensors a user-friendly sensitivity adjustment instead of a fixed sensing range. Likewise, these sensors provide an extended sensing range to accommodate mechanically demanding areas and tem- perature stability to ensure high immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and a minimum need for adjusting sensitivity, if the temperature varies. **==> picture [72 x 72] intentionally omitted <==** ## **Note:** The sensors are factory set (default) to nominal sensing range Sn.Sn. ## **Wiring Diagram** **==> picture [234 x 217] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
NPN
BN
WH
10 - 40 VDC
BK 200 mA
BU
PNP
BN
BK
10 - 40 VDC
WH 200 mA
BU
**----- End of picture text -----**
**==> picture [232 x 101] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
PNP Dust- or Temperature alarm on NC
BN
BK
10 - 40 VDC
WH (DU/TA) 200 mA
BU
**----- End of picture text -----**
## **PNP Dust- or Temperature alarm on NO** **==> picture [193 x 82] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
BN
BK
10 - 40 VDC
WH (DU/TA) 200 mA
BU
**----- End of picture text -----**
## **Detection Diagram** **==> picture [500 x 160] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
Sensor
Y Flush Non-flush
X
Target
Distance (inch) Distance (inch)
-0,31 -0,24 -0,16 -0,08 0 0,08 0,16 0,24 0,31 0,39 0,47 0,55 -0,31 -0,24 -0,16 -0,08 0 0,08 0,16 0,24 0,31 0,39 0,47 0,55
25 0,98 25 0,98
20 0,79 20 0,79
15 0,59 15 0,59
10 0,39 10 0,39
5 0,20 5 0,20
0 0,00 0 0,00
-5 -0,20 -5 -0,20
-10 -0,39 -10 -0,39
-15 -0,59 -15 -0,59
-20 -0,79 -20 -0,79
-25 -0,98 -25 -0,98
-8 -6 -4 -2 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 -8 -6 -4 -2 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14
Distance (mm) Distance (mm)
(mm) (inch) (mm) (inch)
Sensor head Sensor head
**----- End of picture text -----**
**3** Specifications are subject to change without notice (04.07.2022) **CA18CAN/CAF.....** ## **Detection Stabilit Indication y** **==> picture [72 x 72] intentionally omitted <==** **==> picture [500 x 215] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
Target influence
Stable ON
Output ON
Output OFF
Stable OFF
Time
Green LED ON
Yellow LED ON
Output NO
Output NC
Dust alarm NO >1 sec. >1 sec. >1 sec. >2 sec.
Dust alarm NC >1 sec. >1 sec. >1 sec. >2 sec.
**----- End of picture text -----**
## **Dimensions** **==> picture [52 x 8] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
CA18CAF....
**----- End of picture text -----**
**==> picture [145 x 78] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
86
70
LED
M18 x 1.0 x 55 15
**----- End of picture text -----**
**==> picture [65 x 8] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
CA18CAF....M1
**----- End of picture text -----**
**==> picture [151 x 79] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
85
70
LED
M18 x 1.0 x 55 15 M12 x 1.0
**----- End of picture text -----**
**==> picture [155 x 117] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
CA18CAN....
86
70
LED
8 M18 x 1.0 x 47 15
Cable
**----- End of picture text -----**
**==> picture [67 x 8] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
CA18CAN....M1
**----- End of picture text -----**
**==> picture [158 x 102] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
85
70
LED
8 M18 x 1.0 x 47 15 M12 x 1.0
Plug
**----- End of picture text -----**
## **The back of the sensor** **==> picture [208 x 32] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
Sensitivity
adjustment
Green LED
Yellow LED
**----- End of picture text -----**
**==> picture [54 x 38] intentionally omitted <==** **==> picture [164 x 80] intentionally omitted <==** **----- Start of picture text -----**
2 Colour code
1 Brown
3 1 2 White
3 Blue
4 Black
4
**----- End of picture text -----**
**4** Specifications are subject to change without notice (04.07.2022) **CA18CAN/CAF.....** ## **Installation Hints** Capacitive sensors have a • **Chemical Industry** unique ability to detect alCleansers, fertilizers, liqmost any material in li quid or uid soaps, corrosives and solid form.
